| Summary: | This study focused on inmates inside the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City and the roles that they adopt in the social system in which they are confined. The role theory explains this by presuming that individuals within a context emerge as members of familiar social identities or positions and that they and others have expectations about behaviors in a particular setting. Thus, the social system formed in the correctional attempts to resemble the social system found in the free society wherein certain roles are typically expected of individuals. As result, the inmates also adopt roles in their new social system, which are often similar to the ones they previously occupied i the broader society. |
