Summary:This study focused on the whole experience of an exchange student from what motivates them to participate in an exchange program, what adjustment they have undergo and what impacts the exchange students after the program. To gather information, the researchers have used qualitative study and the sampling method used was snowball sampling technique. The researchers have conducted an in depth interview with eleven exchange students who have participated in an exchange program from the year 2010 to 2012. Results show that despite the hard process of the application, the exchange students still pursue the program because they are motivated to fulfill their needs to grow up, need to live in other nation, need to expose to new environment and need to fulfill their commitment. Despite being prepared there are still adjustment the exchange students need to undergo, these may be related to their living situation, academic, interaction with others, host nation and extra-curricular activities. After participating from the exchange program, their university expected the program to make a positive impact it may be in social aspect, cultural aspect or personal aspect.
