Summary:In the Philippines, real estate has long since been a popular job and it is a shame that there are currently very few studies on it. It is for this reason that we have set out to do a phenomenological study on the motivations and stresses of real estate agents. The purpose of this study is to find out the different motivations people have for entering into real estate, as well as what stresses them when they are on the job. For our study, we settled on using Forbes motivational framework and Karasek and TheorellJob Demands Control model as the framework of our study. The method used was a qualitative approach using a semi structured interview with 7 respondents. We also used the phenomenological method to interpret our findings. From our study, we found that money was a chief motivator when it came to entering into real estate. We found that despite involving a lot of socializing, the social aspect of real estate is of little importance to agents. In terms of stress, it was determined that stress in real estate is highly dependent on each individual. In conclusion, real estate agencies should pay special attention to their salary model or how they pay or reward their agents as money is a chief motivator here. In terms of stress, real estate should be a low stress job, this changes however if the individual in question does not have the competencies necessary for the job. It is for this reason that we recommend agencies to employ people who possess skills such as finding buyers, and closing sales as it is these same people who are adept at doing their job that are mostly likely not going to get stressed. Hopefully the insight provided by our study could be used to better the industry when it comes to managing employees.
