Summary: | Marikina, one the cities comprising Metro Manila is considered a highly urbanized community wherein its land use has changed significantly but unfortunately decreased impermeability. Alongside, the city has been experiencing varying rainfall patterns which have significantly influenced the amount of surface runoff volume that resulted to adverse flooding impacts. Thus, the study aims to conduct a rainfall-runoff analysis in Marikina as influenced by varying rainfall patterns and various land use exhibited in the area to provide a reliable approximation of potential surface runoff volume which is the core in designing a flood miitigation infrastructure in order to alleviate flooding and its adverse effects. The study utilized Hydrograph Method specifically SCS Curve Number Loss Model that led to a conclusion that intensive land use which corresponds to a higher curve number resulted to a higher runoff volume since rainfall is prevented from infiltrating or being absorbed by the soil. More so, correlating the various equations in the study resulted to a rainfall-runoff chart which associates rainfall and runoff through land use and runoff coefficients. |
