A study on the pyschological and relational effects of self-disclosure to close friends and acquaintances

Secrets have long been a part of human society and as everyone has experienced and studies have shown, disclosing personal secrets has its effects on the person- both psychologically and on his or her relationship with other people. Twenty-four respondents were gathered for this study and the researchers found out that people will disclose deep personal secrets to their close friends and trivial secrets to their acquaintances. The relationship between secret keeper and close friend tends to get better or develop after disclosure whereas they tend to be the same when the secret keeper discloses to an aquaintance.
