Description
Summary:Speed Regulation is one of the problem areas in the operation of a stand-alone micro hydro power electric plant. Electronic Load Controllers are sometimes used but these devices are usually imported and quite costly which requires skilled manpower to operate, repair, and maintain. This study aims to offer an alternative solution to this problem by using fuzzy logic principles commonly used in domestic appliances such as washing machine, and video cameras. An experimental set-up was designed and fabricated using 5 diameter, two-cell cross flow turbine and a 2 diameter centrifugal pump driven by a 2HP single phase electric motor which supplies the required water flow rate and head. Two DC servomotors actuate two inlet guide vanes using fuzzy logic programs interfaced with a personal computer.
