Description
Summary:Taking care of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and intellectual disabilities can have a number of effects on the lives of married couples. This paper examines the effect of taking care of these children has on the marital quality of Filipino couples and the other factors that come along with taking care of children with ASD and ID. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was used by the researchers to analyse the data gathered from 8 Filipino couples who had children either with an ID or ASD. Results indicate that taking care of these children positively affected 7 couples, while it negatively affected the marital quality of just one couple. Resilience was a key factor in couples overcoming the challenge of their child. This study shows how a child with ID and ASD affects the marital quality of Filipino couple s and how these couples were able to get through their situation.
