Description
Summary:The construction industry in the Philippines has very little regard on environmental aspects in the development of their companies. The study concentrated on providing an assessment through quantitative analysis on the Environmental Management System (EMS) of AAA construction companies in Metro Manila. The study employed the use of surveys as the mechanism for obtaining the environmental aspects of each company. The statistical tools used were Artificial Neural Network and Self Organizing Map. The results obtained revealed quantitative dimensions on the different aspects of ISO 14001 contractors and t hose who have none in terms of their EMS standards. Using the tools mentioned, the study obtained a 75% rating for the EMS OF ISO 14001 companies while for those whose EMS are not yet accredited were given a two dimensional boundary in which they can use as a basis that their EMS is competently ready to be accredited. These scores were 53% for their environmental criteria and goals and 64% for the implementing barriers they face. These scores also constitute the parameters for the Philippine condition in developing effective EMS standards.
