The differences in dieters'-at-risk and no nondieters' perception of family functioning

The difference of family functioning perception of both dieters-at-risk and nondieters was examined using a sample of female college students (n=56). Respondents were selected using a checklist constructed by the researchers of this study. A device measuring the psychological characteristics of individuals who are at risk of developing an eating disorder was used to assess both groups' differences. After which, Family Assessment Device was administered to measure the respondents' family functioning perception. Discriminant Function Analysis was employed to analyze the results. It was found out that there was no family variable that could predict a dieter-at-risk from a nondieter. However, the full model method led the researchers to conclude that Roles was the best predictor among the family variables, regardless of significance.
