Going with the flow : when downhill skateboarders experience flow and boredom

The goal of this study was to find out the differences of verbal reports during the experience of flow and boredom. Downhill skateboarders of similar skill levels were exposed to conditions wherein they were expected to experience flow as well as boredom. Through the Online Speech Protocol and a modified approach to qualitative data analysis, the study was able to identify differences in verbal reports of skaters when they were exposed to different levels of difficulty. By looking into the verbal reports and the context of when it was said, researchers were able to analyze the allocation and dispersion of attention. The study showed that there are differences in verbal reports during the experience of flow and during the experience of boredom.
