Summary: | The objective of this study is to examine the perceived psychological effects of injury between two identities athletic and academic, coping strategies, and the stages of recovery of injured student athletes. Qualitative research design was used through interviews and the data were analyzed through content analysis. Both athletic and academic performances and aspects were negatively influenced by the experience of injury and the injured student athletes utilized appropriate coping strategies in accordance with the problem. Stages of recovery were also constructed from depression, acceptance, optimism, motivation, and to either perseverance or apathy. |
