In particular, the researchers studied about her childrearing beliefs as well as her childrearing practices. Using a descriptive research design, the researchers conducted an unstructured interview with 15 participants. An interview guide helped in generating the proper data. The purposive sampling technique was utilized in selecting yayas from different households in Metro Manila. Content analysis was applied to the data gathered from the participants' responses. The results of the study identified the child rearing beliefs as the following: (a) the child should be taught how to grow up to be a good person (b) the child is the priority (c) the child should be kept safe, protected, and healthy (d) a yaya should be patient and understanding (e) parents are still the primary caregiver. On the other hand, child rearing practices were categorized into the following: (a) a yaya imparts values and good morals to the child (b) a yaya accomplishes the child's routine for the day (c) a yaya teaches new skills to the child (d) a yaya gives limitations on the child's behavior (e) a yaya punishes the child conditionally. In order to describe the role of the yaya as secondary caregiver, the researchers related the child rearing beliefs and child rearing practices to each other. Consequently, the role of the yaya was obtained as the following: (a) develops the child into a good person (b) prioritizes the child's best interests (c) keeps the child safe, protected, and healthy all day, (d) needs patience and understanding (e) punishes the child conditionally. Generally, the researchers found that the main role of the yaya as secondary caregiver is to bring up the child as a good member of society. 2002-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/11582 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Physician-Patient Psychology
