Parenting styles as moderator between sibling relationship and social adjustment of typically developing adolescent siblings of children with autism spectrum disorders

The present study aims to identify whether or not parenting styles will have a significant effect on the relationship between the sibling relationship and social adjustment of typically developing (TD) adolescent siblings of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The Sibling Relationship Questionnaire, Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ), and the Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters (MESSY) were administered to TD Filipino adolescents from Manila and Bulacan (N=44) who belong to a family with a child with autism with ages 12-23 (M=18.25, SD=3.04). Results show that warmth and closeness in sibling relationship and social adjustment and parenting style and social adjustment are correlated. However, none of the moderation models in the study yielded significant results.
