Summary: | This descriptive study is about the intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors that have pushed a graduating Filipino college student to decide to emigrate as his or her chosen career option. The researchers used in-depth interviews in obtaining the data essential for this study, with an unstructured interview guide as an instrument. There were 32 respondents, consisting of 16 males and 16 females, from the top four Philippine universities who participated in this study. From the gathered and analyzed results, this study found out that, 1) there were no significant factors that made the decision-making process difficult for the participants, 2) the major intrinsic factors that the respondents considered were the need for self-development, independence and gaining more knowledge, 3) the major extrinsic factors, meanwhile, were more opportunities, in terms of job and education, monetary compensation and the given circumstances of the participants and 4) majority of those leaving the country do so because of the intrinsic factors that carried the most weight in the decision-making process of the graduating Filipino college students. |
