Summary: | This is a descriptive study focusing on: 1) the concept of happiness of upper class adolescents 2) the indicators of happiness of these adolescents and 3) the cultural implications of these indicators. Non-probability purposive sampling technique was used in gathering the respondents. The semi-structured interview method was used for the data gathering. Interview of thirteen male and twenty female respondents were conducted. Content analysis and frequency counts were done for the data analysis. The results showed that upper class adolescents have 1) internal, external, and other sources of happiness which reflect their concept of happiness, 2) they use internal, external, and other manifestations of happiness as indicators of happiness, and 3) the sources and indicators of happiness of these adolescents imply the following: 1) Filipino culture has morals and ideals that value the stability and harmony of social relationships, 2) that they value their role in society, and 3) that they have the need to balance all the aspects in their life in relation to self and the others that surround them. |
