Summary: | This is a descriptive study that deals with the life experiences of separated fathers and widowers. The study focused on the parent-child relationship, problems that the father experienced as a result of being a single parent, the benefits and gains of being a single father, his family support system, his self-concept and future plans. The researchers employed a non-probability purposive sampling technique. The respondents of the study were all referred to the group mostly by relatives and friends. The research design is descriptive in nature and the researchers made use of in-depth interview as the means of gathering information from the respondents. The data gathered through the interview was used to come up with trends and patterns that would explain the life experiences of separated fathers and widowers. Since this particular study focuses on separated and widowed fathers, it was discovered that there were similarities in their experiences as single fathers. But it was also discovered that although these two groups fall under the same category of single fathers there are also some differences. This could probably be attributed to the fact that the manner in which they became single fathers were also very different from one another. |
