Feel the rush: Motivations and consequences of street racing

This is a descriptive type of study that provides a clearer and better picture of the street racing phenomenon being studied. In the study, the profiles of the participants such as age, gender, marital status, and educational attainment, are identified to determine if the participants have something in common. This study also describes and identifies the different motives that cause people to engage in street racing. In addition, this study identifies the positive and negative consequences of engaging in such an activity. There were 30 participants in this study. The researchers used the non-probability sampling method. More specifically, the researchers used the chain referral sampling method. The data gathering technique used was interview. Interview questionnaire was the instrument used in the study. The researchers used qualitative type of data analysis. Content analysis was used to analyze the information gathered from the participants. The results of the study show that most of the racers who participated in the study are males that belong to the age range of 17 to 24, and are single college students. 28.30% of the responses given by the participants are that they were influenced by their friends or peers to join street racing. 16.67% of them also responded that they were into street racing for the mere fun of it. They claimed that winning money is the main benefit they garner from street racing. All of the participants stated that accidents and the high cost of street racing are both the primary negative consequences of the said activity.
