Summary:This paper would present the results of an investigation in determining the rules contractors use in designing crew for three major activities. A reasonable number of crew contractors have been used and the composition of each crew have been addressed. Three major areas in high rise construction will be investigated, namely formworks construction, reinforcing bars, and concreting. A structured interview approach was followed, and a questionnaire was designed to capture the main criteria that contractors use in the design of their manpower. The questionnaire was based on an analysis of the type of work implemented, the activities involved, and the major jobs performed, as well as the general factors affecting labor resource allocation. Within each of the three major structural works, contractors were interviewed and standard rules for manpower design and makeup was elicited and analyzed.
