Description
Summary:This study developed a computer-based information system for construction labor in middle class mass housing projects. The use of a computer was introduced as a tool for monitoring the project. It is a more organized way of processing information for project evaluation. The computer was also used for easy retrieval of the information. Interviews and site visits were conducted by the researchers in order to be aware of the existing information system used by construction firms. The projects were monitored with the help of the project engineers and the foreman who have direct supervision of the workers. Present problems in their monitoring system such as slow processing of data and difficulty of visualization and interpretation of data were known. A computer based information system was used for an accurate and systematic monitoring. It reflects productivity, resource allocation and labor cost graphs for easy evaluation and adjustments. Through these featured graphical interpretation of monitoring, it evaluates the progress of a certain job item. All of these output information are produced from the Work Item Daily Time Sheet collected from the field which has enough necessary data needed for data transformation, information are presented accurately and orderly. Since it is a day to day monitoring, the project is evaluated everyday. Therefore, it is a more effective way of monitoring compared to the weekly monitoring.
