Differing conditions of home and school facilities as a Drag on academic performance on the onset of menerche evidence from Col. E. De Leon Elementary School, Parañaque City, Philippines

Academic performance is traditionally modeled through employing an education production function where traditional labor and capital educational inputs are its determinants. However, Maimati and Sieberts (2009) showed that non-traditional factors such as menarche and water supply significantly affect academic performance. In this study, we obtained primary survey data from 283 grade school students in a public school in Paranaque, Philippines and examined for evidence as to whether differing conditions of sanitation facilities affect academic performance on the onset of menstruation. We find evidence of a drag on performance with a maximum of 4.07 points for students experiencing menarche and a 0.20 point joint effect of menarche and whose home and school facilities are largely different form each other.
