Description
Summary:Alcohol is very present in the Filipino culture due to the influence of Spanish colonization drinking alcohol is widely used for celebrating important occasions. Adults and young adults alike drink in various events for various reasons. The purpose of the present study is to explore the experiences of Filipino drinkers and through this determine what levels of interaction are formed and how deep they go by using Virgilio Enriquez's (1994) Levels of Interaction as framework. 20 respondents were engaged in pakikipagkwentuhan as a method of data-gathering, 10 of which were college students, 5 adults from Manila and 5 adults who are originally from the provinces. Data gathered was validated through triangulation. Through the experiences of the participants, the results showed that first five levels of interaction (pakikitungo, pakikisalamuha, pakikilahok, pakikibagay and pakikisama) under the ibang-tao category happens whenever a person drinks with strangers or people they don't have a deep relationship with but it gradually develops to the category of di-ibang tao (pakikipagpalagayan-loob, pakikisangkot and pakikiisa) category whenever they frequently drink with these people or when they drink with people that they already have an established relationship with.
