Antibiograms & conjugative transferability of antimicrobial resistance of pseudomonas aeruginosa from the Philippine General Hospital
Antibiograms of seven (7) isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa obtained from patients suffering from urinary tract infection (UTI) from May to June 1998 at the Philippine General Hospital were determined. All isolates showed multi-drug resistance to seven (7) antibiotics, namely, trimethoprim, tetracy...

Antibiograms of seven (7) isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa obtained from patients suffering from urinary tract infection (UTI) from May to June 1998 at the Philippine General Hospital were determined. All isolates showed multi-drug resistance to seven (7) antibiotics, namely, trimethoprim, tetracycline, ampicillin, streptomycin, kanamycin, erythromycin and nalidixic acid. One (1) out of the seven isolates was resistant to aztreonam and ticarcillin. Two (2) were resistant to both carbencillin and cefotaxime, three (3) to amikacin, and four (4) to tobramycin, ciprofloxacin, and netilmicin. All isolates exhibited resistance to chloramphenicol except for isolate 2, which gave an intermediate response. None of the isolates was resistant to imipenem. The isolates were conjugated with Escherichia coli SP 800 in both plate and urine medium using the different donor-recipient ratios: 1:1, 1:3, and 1:4. Temperature was varied at 25 centigrade and 37 centigrade. None of the Pseudomonas isolates was able to transfer their resistance to Eschericia coli SF 800 under any of the tested conditions 1999-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/11810 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository |
