The role of family and peers in the transition of an ex-homosexual young adult

Because of society's wide acceptance of sexual minorities, they have become a field of interest in research and most of the studies done on relation to it focused more on the transition of heterosexuals to homosexuals. However, there are only a few studies which focus on the sexual development of an young-adult who transitioned from homosexuality to heterosexuality, especially studies that investigate the roles of family and peers play on the sexual development of homosexual young-adult to heterosexual and its differences in gender through a general qualitative research design. This study purposively sampled eight participants, half of which are women and the rest are men. The participants are interviewed in order to gather data and thematic analyses were used to answer the research questions. As for a validity check, this study used member checking to establish the trustworthiness of the study's findings. Results of the study showed that there are several roles of family, peers, and others that have both been researched previously and at the same time unexpected for some other roles of influence.
