This paper tackles the technological innovation issues faced by selected SMEs in practicing environmental sustainability through an exploratory study. The purpose of this study is to identify the significance of attaining environmental sustainability and address the sustainable driven technological innovation issues faced by selected SMEs. It includes a review of related literature and two frameworks which aim to determine the relationship between the innovative and two frameworks which aim to determine the relationship driven between the innovative capabilities possessed by SMEs and the sustainable driven technological innovation issues faced by SMEs. Focusing on two small enterprises in Metro Manila, the multiple-holistic study design was applied.
The study proposes that four innovative capabilities possessed by an SME contribute to sustainable driven technological innovation. In the process of investigation, the technological innovation issues faced by selected SMEs in attaining environmental sustainability through analyzing how these innovative capabilities to such innovation are identified.
Through conducting interviews with the two small enterprises, results show that the innovative capabilities possessed by an SME contribute to sustainable driven technological innovation. Conclusions show that these innovative capabilities should be used together since it helps in strengthening technological innovation in a firm and in addressing technological issues regardless of where innovation is experienced and the phased of innovation. The technological innovation issues faced by two small enterprises include: high cost associated to sustainability, demand for sustainable driven technologies, limited environmental restrictions from the government and the risks of failure. To overcome these issues, reevaluating the four innovative capabilities of a firm is essential since these issues can arise from their characteristics, abilities and competitive nature. |
