Description
Summary:Executive Summary. CornerSteel Systems Corporation has been engaged in the production of office system furniture since 1981 under the Comfac Global Group of Companies. Presently, they have been experiencing a great percentage of reworks which is 22.95% that has exceeded its 15% allowable rework. With this the company is incurring an additional cost of Php 2,329,410.20 for the year 1998 for rework. In line with this, the group has conducted a thorough investigation and analysis as to what is the real root cause of this rework problem and the group has arrived to a several number of possible causes. Among these, the group was able to determine the two most predominant causes through the use of several tool such as the Pareto Diagram and the Cause and Effect Diagram. The first true cause is the occurrence of rework due to wrong material used and the second true cause is the reworked panels due to the defect of having of scratches and dents on the metal parts. The group was able to generate several alternatives for each cause. Then, a proposed solution for each cause was gathered using the Kepner-Tregoe Analysis. The solution for the first cause is to hire a production coordinator that will be tasked to coordinate with the marketing department regarding the specification of the panel to be produced. He will also be the one responsible in supervising the material selection of the raw materials. For the later cause the implemented solution is to acquire a table and a foam that is to be placed on top of the table. This is where the attachment of the metal parts will take place instead of the present, where it is only done on the floor of the assembly area. By doing this the occurrence of scratches and dents on the metal parts will be minimized.
