Summary:Executive Summary. Pioneer Offset Printing, Incorporated (POPI) is a manufacturing company engaged in the production of packaging materials, such as, display cartons, blister cards, food trays and labels. Aside from package printing, Pioneer Offset Printing Incorporated also provides services like, converts all kinds of paper, converts board and film materials, heat sealing, newsletters, magazine printing, poster printing and invitations. Presently, Pioneer Offset Printing, Incorporated is suffering from shortage of raw materials for production. For the study period of nine months, the company has been averaging an occurrence of twice a month of having no raw materials when needed. Specifically, a total of 18 occurrences were experienced in a period of nine months. From computations, opportunity losses from the above mentioned amounted to P 7,154.90 per month. There were several probable causes of the occurrence of having no raw materials when needed that were identified. These causes were the following: (1) production manager has numerous jobs, (2) raw materials allocated for some Job Orders are depleted, (3) inaccurate inventory records, and (4) no proper location of raw materials. In order to solve the probable causes, the following solutions were chosen: (1) delegate some of the responsibilities of the production manager to a warehouse personnel, (2) place tags on allocated raw materials, (3) use requisition form to specify the quantity and type of raw materials to be taken from the warehouse, and (4) rearrange the raw materials within the warehouse. The proposed solutions eliminated the problem of having no raw materials. Moreover, it has eliminated the costs of P 7,154.90 per month. There are also a number of benefits that Pioneer Offset Printing, Incorporated incurred like having the proper allocation of raw materials for their specific job orders, proper monitoring of their raw materials used for the production of display cartons, and having proper location for their raw materials.
