Summary: | The crude petroleum ether extract of the orange-flowered variety of Caesalpinia pulcherrima was subjected to column chromatographic separation. Three fractions were obtained and were labeled as Cpx1, Cpx2, and Cpx3. Toxicity test of those fractions on cockroaches showed Cpx3 to have the highest percentage of mortality.
Preliminary characterization of CPx3 by 1H-NMR indicates the presence of a hydrocarbon skeleton. The infrared spectrum of Cpx3 revealed the presence of a carbonyl group. |
