Investigation and separation of the insecticidal principle in Sandoricum indicum Meliaceae Bark

Through the soaking method, the hexane, acetone, and methanol extracts of Sandorium indicum Meliacege bark were investigated by testing against cockroaches. The most active extract was that of methanol as solvent using the contact method for testing. This extract was purified and phytochemical tests...

Through the soaking method, the hexane, acetone, and methanol extracts of Sandorium indicum Meliacege bark were investigated by testing against cockroaches. The most active extract was that of methanol as solvent using the contact method for testing. This extract was purified and phytochemical tests were done. The semi-purified extract was found to contain alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and cardenolcids. This extract was then resolved into nine components using different ratios of acetic acid in benzene employing thin layer chromatography. Further separation to a one-component system was done by quick column chromatography. The activity of these fractions were tested against cockroaches. Functional group tests on the most active one-component fraction indicated the possible presence of double bonds, carbonyl, methylene, alcoholic and nitro groups. The same groups were found in its IR spectra. 1984-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/278 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Sandoricum indicum (Santol) Insecticidal plants Pesticidal plants Chemistry
