Description
Summary:Heritage language learners are learners of the primary language of their parents which they might have been exposed to hut have not learned it as a language they can fluently use to communication with other people. Salinlahi, an Interactive Learning Environment, was developed to teach these 2young3 Filipino heritage learners about basic Filipino vocabulary while Salinlahi II included a support for collaborative learning. With the aim of teaching 2older3 learners with basic knowledge in Filipino, a new learning system needs to be developed in order to accommodate the learning needs of these students. To help resolve this problem, an Intelligent Tutoring System called Salinlahi III was developed to teach higher level lessons focusing on Filipino grammar and sentence construction. The target learners of Salinlahi III are those residing in North America. To test the effectiveness of the system, internal, external and overall evaluation were done. In internal evaluation, the user interface and feedback of the tutor was assessed to be appropriate. In external evaluation, experimental and controlled field tests were done and results showed that there is a positive learning gain after using the system. Lastly, according to experts, the system is a potential educational software.
