Description
Summary:The instructional tools for File Organization are multimedia applications that can be used by faculty members to aid them in delivering lessons. These tools are developed using information technology to minimize the use of traditional methods of teaching. To achieve these, the developers identified the learning objectives of each topic, evaluated the sufficiency of the existing instructional materials, applied learning and design principles, designed teaching tools using multimedia elements, developed a prototype of the designed tools and conducted user and audience acceptance testing. Multimedia elements such as texts, graphics, sounds and animations are incorporated to improve on the traditional method of teaching the topics. The instructional tools developed cover three main topics in File Organization namely: Secondary Storage Devices, Random File Organization and Indexed Sequential File Organization. These tools provide presentations of each topic from the different storage devices to the specific types of organizing a file. Drills and exercises are also provided whenever appropriate. These also discuss the different rules in storing a record and demonstrate how the rules are actually applied."
