My personality led me to engage in body art: Dark triad a predictor of body art

The focus of this research is to examine the Dark Triad personality namely Psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and Narcissism in relation to Body Art among college students in the Philippines. Body Art, mainly tattoos and piercings, have been increasingly accepted in today's society. The researchers of the study aimed to discover whether the traits of the Dark Triad personality predict an individual's engagement in body art. The researchers conducted a survey consisting of 79 students (44 male and 35 female) all studying in universities around Metro Manila. The researchers used D3-short survey (Paulhus & Jones, 2011) to assess the Dark Triad personalities and the ink count and piercing test, a non-standardized test for body art. The researchers found out that both Psychopathy and Machivellianism showed significant results in the study, Psychopathy being a positive predictor and Machiavellism being a negative predictor. However, it was found out in the study that although Narcissim is a positively correlated to Body Art, the results showed that it does not predict the engagement in Body Art.
