Summary: | The Solar System 3D Explorer (SOL3D) is a multimedia application providing information in visual, auditory, and textual forms concerning space in general and the celestial bodies of our solar system in particular. It has four main components, namely: the Multimedia Viewer, the Multimedia Editor, the Model Viewer and the Model Editor.
The Multimedia Viewer provides the purely informative side to the software in the form of actual pictures, video clips and simple text information about the celestial bodies of the solar system. All data found here may be updated using the Multimedia Editor. New video clips, pictures and text articles may be added to the existing data for the Multimedia Viewer to display.
The Model Viewer presents five different camera modes for viewing the solar system model. The user may navigate through the model by rotating or translating the view. The current time the model reflects may also be set to show the positions of each body at a particular time period. The rate at which time progresses in the model can be increased or decreased to accelerate or decelerate the speed at which the bodies rotate and move in their orbits.
The Model Editor may be used in the updating of the existing solar system model and the creation of new models. It allows modification of texture maps, orbits and various planetary information. |
