The speed data are taken from a hall-effect sensor attached near the rear wheel and the distance and the acceleration are computed internally using these data. The load weight is measured as overweight or underweight via an LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) circuit. The seatbelt status is logged via an implemented seatbelt switch. The date and time is taken from the DS1302 RTC (Real Time Clock) chip. As the logged data can be viewed using a PC or a mobile phone, the group used a Universal Asynchronous Transmit/Receive (UART) connection, through HyperTerminal, as the bridge connecting the DAS and PC (with MS Excel sorting and graphing the data).
