Description
Summary:Air pollution is one of the major problems in our country. Vehicles are one of the main contributors to air pollution. Most of them roam the streets emitting hazardous gases. Since emission testing is done once a year only, it is imperative that Clean Air Act enforcers constantly monitor the streets using a portable emission analyzer for culpable violators. However, these analyzers are expensive. In this study, the Portable Automobile Exhaust Emission Analyzer is capable of analyzing exhaust emission for both gasoline and diesel fueled vehicles. The Portable Exhaust Emission Analyzer consists of the microcontroller, the carbon monoxide sensor, the hydrocarbon sensor, nitrous oxide sensor, the stroboscope, the oil temperature sensor, and the opacimeter. The stroboscope acts as the tachometer while the combination of the microcontroller, hydrocarbon, nitrous oxide, and carbon monoxide sensors comprised the gas analyzer. The microcontroller accepts inputs from the sensor and the keypad. It then processes the information derived from the input devices and outputs it to an LCD and printer. The printout shows the date of test, the plate number, year model of the vehicle, type of engine and the values of the gases measured. The Analyzer is tested vis-a-vis an existing emission tester which serves as the group's reference.
