Summary:Taking a step into exploring the sky-is-the-limit possibilities RF identification seems to have promised in terms of offering solutions, this study attempts to veer from its well-established purpose of supply chain tracking and inventory, and brings it in as a proposed solution to a prevailing urban crisis. By using RF technology, coupled with microcontroller networking, this study tackles the country's traffic situation with a no-contact enforcement of traffic sign and traffic light violations, notably a primary focus on violations that occur in intersections. This will be done by placing RF units on vehicles, which contains their identification information. Using an acquisition/detection system in the form of RF modules and a microcontroller, this information will be retrieved as each vehicle passes by strategic locations. Communicating this information to a subnet computer allows processing to occur, in order to determine if a violation has actually been committed or not. This is then sent to a web browser application for display, where traffic enforcers can make use of this information to deploy their forces more efficiently and centralize their operations. A more consistent application of the law is expected to instill a sense of motorist discipline, resulting in improved traffic low.
