Summary: | Developing an electronic means of monitoring channel usage enables a cable TV provider the means of accessing usage information down to the exact time durations of their subscribers. This would allow cable TV providers information about how TV channels are being viewed, what TV shows are most watched and when, and be able to charge advertisement rates accordingly for every TV channel and show. On the other hand, having an Anti-Illegal Tapping System addresses the growing problem of illegal tapping in cable TV connections.
This project monitors cable TV usage through electronic means. An Intermediate Device will function as a monitoring device that would detect the current channel being viewed by a subscriber, indicate the length of time a subscriber is tuned to this channel and be able to send back information to a database program located at the distributor / head end of the cable TV provider. In addition, this project employs a Subscriber Protection System wherein valid subscribers are given the proper cable TV service they are subscribed to while those who are connected illegally from the system are refused valid cable TV service. |
