Description
Summary:The transfer-based English-Filipino bidirectional machine translation system using Lexical Functional Grammar (LFG) allows users to translate documents written in English to Filipino using rule-based methods. It is done by parsing a text by creating an intermediary, symbolic representation, from which the text in the target language is generated. This method requires extensive lexicons with syntactic, and semantic information, and large sets of rules. The LFG is a technique, and Natural Language Processing that aims to make a representation that can handle a language’s syntactic, lexical, morphological, and semantic information. The proponents have develop a system that is very extensible and is limited almost only to the resources given to it. These resources include grammar rules, dictionary entries, and transfer rules. The resource writer need only follow the standard set by the proponents on creating the necessary resources. Resources are currently very limited and thus translation results are still quite restricted. Extensions to the research should focus more on diversifying the resources available.
