Description
Summary:Craniofacial reconstruction is a field in forensic anthropology that deals with the reconstruction of a pre-death facial appearance of a person for the sole purpose of identification of a human being. Age, gender and race are important factors/characteristics that help in the determination of the identity of an individual. There are existing methods and approaches in determining these traits from a skull and in producing their proper estimates. Existing craniofacial reconstruction systems are unable to determine automatically these characteristics and have focused more on the reconstruction process. The research focuses on applying the different techniques, algorithms and methods used for the determination of a skull's race, gender, and age range. This presents a new challenge in generating algorithms for calculations in image processing as skulls come in different shapes and sizes. Automatic determination of these traits may serve as a foundation for future craniofacial reconstruction systems.
