Summary: | In this study, retrofitting the press brake machine focused on two items: semi-automation of the back gauge and ram travel. The back gauge is installed with a servomotor, connected to an h-bridge circuit. For the control of the ram travel, the pressure gauge and positioning devices are set up with stepping motors. The direction and speed of these motors are determined from the signals the computer sends via the stepping motor driver circuit.
An accuracy and precision test has been conducted to verify the reliability of the machine. The experiment yielded a successful result. Data have fallen within the tolerance limits. However, when an analysis is conducted within the data, some of the points fell outside of the control limits. This suggests that one or two instances of the sample have experienced variability from the mean, but not necessarily out of the acceptable tolerance limits. Attention is given to these instances to see why they have deviated.
A comparative test between the set-up time of the old machine and that of the retrofitted one has also been performed. With the retrofitted machine, set-up time has been reduced. Consequently, the time needed to produce the same number of bends, including set-up, has dramatically gone down. Hence, the time saved can be used on other tasks. |
