Summary: | This project aims to upgrade the current technology used in manual hydroponics and traditional growing of plants to a self-sustaining hydroponics system. It deals with the actual design and fabrication of a system based on manual hydroponics which would automate the nutrient distribution, control enabling and disabling of external components inside the system, control light intensity, capture humidity and temperature readings that would, in turn, be stored in a database for future reference of the user. Thus, the Automated Hydroponics System aims to automate the monitoring and controlling of an enclosed environment.
This project also presents the design components used for the framework and piping design of the system, the electrical design as well as the software.
In the Philippines, hydroponics system monitoring and control is still being done manually making it more difficult since one should constantly monitor the environment in order for the plants to survive. Furthermore, manual hydroponics systems require skill from the workers' point of view and it also requires a lot of time and effort in order to be efficient and accurate. The Automated Hydroponics System will save time and energy since it would be running on its own. This may also improve the quality of plants in a controlled environment, thus making plant-growing more effective even in small households. |
