Summary: | This study aims to fuse different concepts and ideas into an application. It will be achieved by improving an automated lathe machine that was previously restored by another thesis group. The mentioned lathe machine is the Manufacturing Engineering and Management Department owned Boxford 125 TCL.
The group will add new features and operations to the Boxford 125 TCL. The group would integrate new electronic circuits and mechanical attachments to make it more versatile. The group would maintain the CNC lathe's capability to be interfaced and controlled by a computer. However, the program would be changed.
The software program would be able to control all the functions that the Boxford 125 TCL has. The application will drive the stepper motors for the axes and the tool carousel, the DC motor will drive the spindle, the pump for the lubrication system. The machine could operate on both manual and computer mode. The manual mode of operation could be controlled through the control panel which is on the right side of the machine.
Hopefully the group would accomplish all its objectives with all these put together. |
