Summary: | In the Philippines, livestock is a common source of income. Raising swine (hogs or pigs) are relatively easy and cost-efficient in terms of maintenance. A well-bred pregnant sow is crucial to the success of a hog raiser because it will produce the next batch of pigs to be raised. It is very important to monitor pregnant sow's health, not only because it contains a hog-raiser's investment in its womb, but also in order to make sure that when the piglets are born, they will not be subject to any contagious disease. In line with this, the group created a system that will monitor the health condition of pregnant sows by gathering their temperature and heart rate through developed sensors. The measured data will be automatically logged into a remote database that will communicate via Zigbee wireless protocol. The hog raisers are ensured that while the system does not detect any fever or abnormal heart rate, their sows and its offspring are safe. This also indicates that when system is implemented, preventive measures, such as early veterinary attention, help save the hog raisers from bigger expenses caused by treatments of dreadful illness. |
