Description
Summary:Empathic computing is a paradigm that enables machine to understand and respond accordingly to the user's needs and conditions. With the creation of an emphatic space, the computers are now able to emphatically respond to the user. Emphatic space consists of multiple embedded sensors. It provides parameter for calculations that determine the necessary actions of different devices or effectors that interact with the user. This paper describes an abstracted acquisition module that is being used to acquire and access data throughout the emphatic space. The data include but not limited to the output of sensors (ambient, context, and user location) and multimedia content (audio and video) which serves as an input for various empathic computing activities or processes. The system tailors both high level (e.g. host applications, web service, HTTP) and low level (e.g. hardware interfacing, microprocessor, CAN) structures that facilitates effective sensor data acquisition, storage and management of embedded sensors for the emphatic space.
