Chua, John Eric O. Philippines is one of the countries in Asia which is in a strategic position that typhoons frequently form and pass through the archipelago. These weather disturbances are being monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) through synoptic weather stations. The problem is that there are only limited numbers of weather station nodes in the different areas of the country. Aside from the limited number of nodes, most of the weather stations are manually operated which signifies that it can't operate in remote areas. The timing in gathering the data parameters and the safety of the observers are also affected with different weather conditions, thus, the development of automated weather station is needed. The researchers designed and implemented a web based weather monitoring station and data storage system that gathers six data parameters such as temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed and direction and amount of rainfall using sensor modules and a PIC microcontroller which process the data. The data gathered are automatically sent via SMS using a GSM module and stored in a database system which are uploaded and viewed on any web browser. Users can also receive data parameters through SMS message by texting specific keywords. The system was tested on one of the sites of PAGASA and was placed on an instrument shelter. A parallel observation was successfully conducted which indicates that the system produced reliable outputs. 2010-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/14672 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Weather forecasting Meteorological stations |
