Summary: | This paper presents the implementation of a Proportional, Integral and Derivative Control System to maintain constant rotational speed in the Savonius Wind Turbine. Conventional turbines use expensive gearboxes in order to make the rotational speed constant and produce AC voltages. However, this study focuses on the design of a vertical-axis Savonius wind turbine equipped with a PID control system to control the gap between the rotors so as to maintain constant rotational speed. Savonius wind turbine is rugged, quiet, omni-directional, and they do not create much stress on the support structure. With the help of the added feedback control system the wind turbine is be capable of producing AC voltage. |
