Summary:The purpose of this study was to describe the adjustment problems and coping strategies of seven Filipino couples currently working under Procter and Gamble Inc., Kobe, Japan.Inorder to acquire the needed data, the researchers employed two methods, survey and interview. The process of convenience and purposive sampling design was used in both methods. There were several criteria taken into consideration, these are: a.) they should both be Filipino citizens with a Filipino culture background b.) one member of the couple is employed under Procter and Gamble Inc. c.) both of the couple must have been residing in Kobe, Japan for at least a span of three months, so as to give them ample time to be acquainted with their environment.The result of this study showed that the respondents encountered adjustment problems with regards to: a.) language barrier b.) Japanese cultural norms and cues c.) difference in palate d.) temperature variation during change of season e.) high cost of living f.) unfamiliarity with routes and g.) parking. The couples coped with it by: a.) making prior preparation for the said move b.) making inquiry c.) accepting the situation d.) learning and e.) making further preparation.
