Summary: | The research aimed to study the family environment of intellectually superior children from the low income group. Specifically, the research aimed to find out the profile of the selected gifted children and their families the relationship between the educational achievement of parents and the development of the gifted child's parents and school authorities and the aspiration and future plans of the parents for their gifted child. The study centered on five sets of respondents, with each set comprising both father and mother, a sibling and the gifted child. The study employed an exploratory type of research design using a case study method in describing the family environment of selected gifted children. The responses gathered from the data was analyzed individually and collectively. In conclusion, it may be appropriate to express that heredity is the main source of giftedness among these five students belonging to the accelerated class of P. Gomez Elementary School, Special Education Program. Also, general results tend to show that family members can either accelerate or hinder the child's development by the quality of guidance and assistance that members of the family extend the gifted child, the financial support the family is willing to offer and the neighborhood or community where the family relates themselves. |
