Corpuz, Gary S.M. The objective of the study was to determine the perception of college students on responsible parenthood and its dimensions and to see the differences in terms of their sex, socioeconomic status, and family of orientation. The hypotheses of the study were: male and female college students have different perceptions on responsible parenthood and its dimensions and the college students have different perceptions on responsible parenthood and its dimensions depending on the socioeconomic status. The research design employed in the study was the descriptive study. The researchers conducted a survey on one hundred sixty respondents who were randomly selected from different universities namely: De La Salle University (DLSU) and Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) to determine their perception. Half of the respondents were males and the other half were females. The results revealed some indications that the respondents have a mature and responsible perception towards parenthood and there are no differences in perception in terms of sex and socioeconomic status. Responsible parenthood involves family planning. They are aware of the importance of planning a family. In planning a family, they are aware of the factors to be considered such as: having fewer number of children, wider gaps between childbirths, and they prefer to marry at a later age. The respondents are also aware of the importance of the socialization function of the parents. For them, instilling of values in children and preparing them for the future and in facing problems are the most important roles of a responsible parent in child-rearing. Their perception of parental roles are partly traditional and partly non-traditional.With all these results, the researchers concluded that adolescents have a more mature view about responsible parenthood. This is reflected in their perceptions on family planning and child-rearing.
