Summary: | A study on male and female adolescents selling sex in the streets--aimed to find out the motivating factors that drive adolescents to enter prostitution and the sustaining factors that make them stay in such occupation. Qualitative design was employed and in gathering the needed data, the researchers used face-to-face interview. A total of ten respondents was interviewed through snowball or referral. There were many factors that influenced many adolescents to be involved in sex selling. The most obvious and principal reason for both male and female respondents was for financial reasons. Most of them ran away from home and having no one to turn to, they resorted to sex selling to support themselves. As to why they stay in the business, still, money was the basic reason. In order for them to survive and having and knowing no other means whatsoever to do so, they find it hard to quit the job.The major and most common risk involved in sex selling is the health hazards. The fear of contracting Sexually Transmitted Diseases was very apparent among all the respondents. |
