Summary:This study is about the views of elderly women on marriage at old age. It includes the elderly women's concept of marriage, the functions of marriage, reasons why they decided to marry even in their later years and their married life, inclusive of their marital problems and solutions to these problems. The respondents of this study are composed of 10 community based elderly women who married or remarried at the age of 60 or older. Most of the respondents are married for the first time and they belong to the lower social class. This study is conducted using the case study method through in depth interviews. The researchers utilized an unstructured interview guide as their instrument in gathering data. The researchers found out that elderly women marry because of love and companionship. Also, the researchers were able to gather that the concept, reason and function of marriage along with the success of marriage are all connected and mutually reinforcing. All the respondents agree that their marriage is successful and they attribute this to maturity and give-and-take relationship.
